Polar Bear PointIf you have been to Arctic Watch (a remote wilderness lodge in Canada's High Arctic) then Polar Bear Point may be familiar with you. as you leave Cummingham Inlet and start to approach the North West Passage, you never quite know what awaits you, with regards to wild and weather. Sometime its sunny and belugas are swimming by, but Mark favourite days are when the weather in rolling in through the North West Passage, one can only image the explorers

After warming up with our morning coffee

It still amazes me how well they navigate through the ice

The wind and the current were in the same direction so Mark stopped the boat upwind and shut down the engine

I left the kill around 9 pm and was nervous about the camera all night as heavy rain did come in

as with the slightest shift in wind direction

After days of crossing the Drake Passage and many hours spent on the bow looking through my binoculars

I hope that this image captures that feeling and allows you to dream

If you look carefully at this imagine you can see kelp (seaweed) wrapped around the pectoral fins of this young orca
