Portrait Of A Girl Carrying FirewoodA fine late 19th century oil on canvas depicting a girl carrying a bundle of firewood. Its been painted confidently with broad brush strokes in areas and a great deal of bravura. Her eyes are beautifully rendered and capture her expression masterfully. Shes caught somewhere between exhaustion and a desire to overcome. In the bottom left youll notice a small dwelling on raised ground. The portrait is housed within an appropriate later wooden frame.

Probably cleaned fairly recently

Several small losses but the paint layer is now stable since its restoration

It’s said that King Frederick VI of Denmark slept here during a stay in 1825
